Miranda Lambert is currently touring North America on her Keeper of the Flame tour, with 27 Robe BMFL fixtures – 19 Spots and eight Blades – making up a new lighting design by Minneapolis-based Paul Guthrie, his first for the artist. Guthrie’s design features five wood-framed columns of LED screens alternated with six bentwood lighting towers on floor bases. Monitor Engineer Arron James Smith has been using a DiGiCo S21 console as he works with Bat For Lashes on the promotional tour for her new album The Bride, a three-date run of churches and cathedrals in the UK and her appearances on Europe’s summer festival circuit. “With Bat For Lashes I’m working with some great musicians,” said Smith. “The church gigs went amazingly and Glastonbury was great, too, particularly considering the weather. Lighting Designer Johnathan Galicia has sought the help of Chauvet Professional for Mexican pop duo Ha*Ash’s Primera Fila tour. Galicia built his tour rig around 12 Next NXT-1 moving LED panels from Chauvet Professional, supplied by Meridian Pro. “Creating the lighting design for the Ha*Ash Primera Fila tour represented several challenges,” said Galicia. “Due to the enormous success Ha*Ash has achieved, the tour has had to have a fairly tight schedule. During his Keine Panik (No Panic) tour, German rock icon Udo Lindenberg celebrated his 70th birthday, and provided quite the visual spectacle for fans. His stage incorporated, amongst other attractions, jugglers, acrobats, a giant pink piano, a children’s choir, and a jam-packed set list with over 30 songs. Backstage Academy, part of the University of Bolton, has received a donation of a fully refurbished 6mm Barco LED display from digiLED to assist students on their BA Hons Visual Production course. The donation came about after a digiLED screen was purchased to upgrade an installation at a site in Canary Wharf, leaving the fully functioning Barco display in need of redeployment. In response to this, digiLED took the modules to their Dorking warehouse where they were refurbished and then stored, before contacting course leader Shannon Harvey at the university. PRG XL Video has upgraded its inventory of Barco projectors in an effort to provide greater flexibility of use across all the market sectors it serves. The upgrade sees HDX-W14 14k projectors transformed to HDX-W20 FLEX units, and HDF-W26 26k projectors becoming HDF-W30 FLEX units. The stock of 14k projectors was purchased in early 2015, with the units being selected for their upgradability.
