Absen appoints Industry Development Director for Virtual Production

Jonathan Dyson, a trained electronics engineer and experienced sales professional, joins Absen to head up Virtual Production in Europe.

Absen has appointed Jonathan Dyson as its first Industry Development Director for Virtual Production in Europe. This new position is designed to build on the momentum the company has generated in the VP sector in the last six months through its new product development and collaborative solution approach.

Dyson brings a wealth of technical and sales experience to the role having most recently served as Technical Sales and Relationship Manager for iMag Displays, a high-end video production and rentals service company. The role involved project management, client liaison and technical responsibilities, as well as new business development in related verticals that include film, television, streaming services and esports. Multiplay Events (part of Game PLC) set up and ran the IT/AV rental division with responsibility for management, training, new product research and assimilation, as well as board level decision-making.

“I’m delighted to be joining Absen as virtual production emerges as a significant new sector for LED displays,” said Dyson. “I’ve been impressed with how Absen has approached the sector, organising the recent London VP Forum for example, as well their solid product engineering, manufacturer partnerships and eagerness to take a leadership position in VP wider market development. I’m looking forward to drawing on my wide and varied experience to continue this commitment and business growth in this exciting new sector for LED displays.”

“Jonathan is exactly the right person to head up our VP division and make sure we take advantage of all the opportunities currently emerging in the sector,” said Ruben Rengel, Vice President of Global Business Development. “He has a great blend of technical, management and sales experience that fits in perfectly with our current requirements. We’re thrilled he has joined the team.”

With VP becoming ever popular across filmmaking, broadcast, video production and gaming, ISE 2023 saw the European tradeshow debut of the PR 2.5, Absen’s new flagship virtual production (VP) LED solution. The PR Series is designed as an all-in-one platform for both a VP backdrop and ceiling. Offering a high contrast ratio, the product offers a wide colour gamut, fast heat dissipation and provides a 16% reduction in power consumption compared with comparative solutions. With the customised lock system, users can quickly complete installations including hanging, stacking and other layouts.
