More than 7,000 people gathered at Down Royal Racecourse on Saturday 5th September as 725 synchronised drones took to the night sky for Northern Ireland’s first-ever public drone light show.
The sold-out Space Safari Drone Light Show, delivered by Immersive Drone Light Shows in partnership with London-based drone technology company Lumina, saw hundreds of LED drones fly in precise synchronisation after sunset, creating enormous animals, characters and scenes from space above the racecourse. The formations transformed the night sky into a giant canvas, combining light, movement, music and storytelling to create a spectacular experience for thousands of spectators.
The aerial animations were choreographed to a cinematic soundtrack and accompanied by narration from BAFTA award-winning TV presenter Michaela Strachan, taking the audience on an adventure through space and the animal kingdom.
The drone show formed the finale to a full afternoon and evening of family entertainment at Down Royal Racecourse. Visitors enjoyed live entertainment, fairground rides and a variety of street food before the 725 drones took to the sky. The Belfast event represented a major milestone for drone entertainment in Northern Ireland, bringing a large-scale public drone light show to the country for the first time.
Shah Kibria, Founder & Executive Producer at Lumina, said: “The crowd in Belfast was mind-blowing. It was incredible to see thousands of people gather with a shared sense of wonder as 725 drones filled the sky. We’re pleased to showcase the creativity and potential of drones as an alternative to traditional fireworks and demonstrate just how powerful this technology can be for live entertainment.”
Kibria added: “A huge thank you to the team at Immersive Drone Light Shows and to everyone at Down Royal Racecourse for their amazing hospitality and for helping us bring this together. Most importantly, thank you to the thousands of people who came out and made the night so special.”
Space Safari combines drone technology with cinematic storytelling and family entertainment, creating a shared live experience designed for audiences of all ages. The production is also designed as an eco-friendly and neurodiverse-friendly alternative to traditional fireworks. Drone displays create large-scale aerial spectacles without loud explosive bangs, smoke or falling debris, providing a more considerate experience for wildlife, pets, young children and neurodiverse audiences who may find conventional fireworks overwhelming.
The sold-out Belfast show adds to Space Safari’s growing programme of live drone light shows, as the production continues to bring large-scale drone entertainment to audiences across the UK and beyond.
