What has the first quarter of 2026 been like?
“It has been strong for Instagrid. In the UK, the film, media, and events sector are leading the way when it comes to global sales and demand for units (with FME), reflecting the world leading FME industry we have here. We’re supporting high profile events worldwide – from powering fireworks at the Burj Khalifa on New Year’s Eve in the UAE to supplying portable power for live broadcast equipment at the Super Bowl in the US. Rising fuel costs are continuing to drive demand across all sectors, but importantly, Instagrid is now a well known and trusted name in the industry. As a result, we’re seeing significant year on year growth, alongside a rapidly expanding global distribution network. Today, Instagrid is available (via distributors) in markets as far reaching as Australia, Chile, and Singapore, firmly establishing our presence on every continent. With Europe and North America our flagship direct sales markets.”
How did it feel for you and the team to walk away with this year’s Green Award?
“Shock and pride. This award belongs to the thousands of customers, end users, rigging crews, build teams, and event managers who have trusted Instagrid and embraced a new way of powering events. Moving away from tried and tested generators to a relatively new technology represents a change for the industry. Power is critical at any event, and trust is only earned by delivering reliability. Winning the Green Award is a powerful endorsement of Instagrid – not just as a trusted power solution, but as a genuinely sustainable one. It recognises the positive impact our technology is already having across thousands of events, helping the industry operate more responsibly without compromise.”
How is the summer season shaping up?
“The outlook for summer is extremely positive. We’re seeing consistent demand from power companies that already stock Instagrid, with many steadily increasing the size of their fleets as the season approaches. One of the most exciting developments this year is our involvement in the Battery Power Hub – a pioneering, mobile ‘clean power hub’ from Bristol City Council designed to provide renewable energy for 20 festivals, events, and film productions throughout 2026. The initiative aims to replace diesel generators entirely, and major events such as Love Saves the Day and Forwards Bristol have already expressed strong interest. The goal is simple but ambitious: to prove that large scale events can be powered sustainably. This builds on the success of ACT 1.5 and the iconic Massive Attack headline show two years ago, which ran entirely on battery power. While the initial focus was on larger battery systems for live event delivery, attention quickly turned to the build and breakdown phases – where Instagrid plays a critical role. Being brought into that conversation is hugely encouraging, and we’re thrilled to be part of a project that represents the future of clean event power.”
Why should event organisers consider battery-based portable power systems?
“In today’s climate, it’s fair to question continued investment in fossil fuelled power systems when cleaner, more efficient, and better performing alternatives already exist. Battery based portable power isn’t a future concept; it’s a proven solution that’s available right now. While Instagrid systems require a higher upfront investment, the economics are compelling. With an average cost of around 40p per recharge, our total cost of ownership modelling consistently proves Instagrid units are significantly cheaper than generators across the typical product life cycle. For organisations that prefer not to invest, Instagrid is also widely available through rental partners across the UK and beyond. The UK events market is among the most progressive when it comes to sustainability, and that momentum is driving adoption. Thanks to Vision for Sustainable Events, A Greener Future, and initiatives like The Show Must Go On report and the Bristol City Battery Hub, the industry is demonstrating that battery power isn’t just more sustainable, it’s also commercially viable and operationally superior. For event organisers, the choice is no longer between sustainability and performance. With battery based power, you get both.”
What can we expect from Instagrid this year?
“We have multiple product variations that operate across the globe, with some built for specific sectors. Our Instagrid ONE is our flagship product – the 230v system, widely used in Events. We also offer the LINK and LINK Max system – they enable units to be linked together to extend run time – or (with LINK MAX) take three 230v units to create a 400v three-phase power. LINK MAX was greatly received in the event sectors – so build teams can stay in control when erecting stages. There are variants for construction, emergency services and the military – as well as adaptations for different voltages and countries. We have a large product development team in our head office in Ludwigsburg, Germany – who are always working on new products, hopefully more can be revealed later this year!”
