Projection Art In Shangri’la

16 August 2010

Glastonbury festival goers who ventured out past the Pyramid Stage enclosure would have discovered the Shangri'la field, one of the key night-time areas where everyone headed after the stages shut down. At its heart is the whopping 180’/60m Hub Wall which was the backdrop for a specially-designed video projection event, produced and executed by Bluman Associates and The Darkroom.

Bluman Associates is a visual solutions consultancy and production services provider, specialising in projection mapping techniques, from concept to delivery.  It worked closely with The Darkroom, a boutique motion graphics studio specialising in content creation for live video performance and multimedia enviroment design, to come up with a cutting-edge design.

Commissioned by Debs Armstrong, made possible by funding from the Arts Council, the Shangri’la Hub Wall screened five hours of a Blade Runner-inspired interactive animation, using the latest architectural projection mapping techniques to tailor the content precisely to the curved structure. Green Hippo’s Hippotizer media server was the control surface for the ever-evolving visuals.
