Video Illusion’s Festival Highlights

Over the course of the festival season, event specialists, Video Illusions spanned the country packed with LEDs, event production staff, stage design and projection mapping.

For its third successive year, the Video Illusions production team were video suppliers to Bloodstock Open Air, the UK’s largest independent heavy metal festival, held at Catton Hall on10-13 August 2017.

In addition to being Bloodstocks most successful year to date with over 15,000 weekend tickets and the highest day entry tickets for Ghost on Saturday. The team at Video Illusions supplied the main stage with VIL6 IP65 5500 watts LED screens and VIL6 9m x 5m LED backdrop screen for Sunday night headliner, Megadeth.

Elsewhere, and for the fourth year running, Video Illusions also provided video production and VJs for the hexagons located at Noisily Festival of Music and Arts’ psychedelic corner, the Liquid Stage.

The company installed Installing 13 of its IP rated 6mm LED panels, each set separately into the facade of the stage to extended or mirror the central screen behind the DJ. A hexagonal lighting truss masked this larger 3.2 x 2.9m main screen.

The design was extended this year by Lucid Illusions, which who brought a set of its custom LED bars, arranged to mimic the structure of molecules emanating from the centre and almost wrapping around the revellers below.

Acclaimed artist Zarah Hussain donated her recent projection piece Numina to the festival. Originally commissioned by The Barbican and displayed in its foyer for four months in 2016, the piece is a complex and imposing 16ft geometric sculpture. The Video Illusions team then stacked two 15,000 lumen projectors with short throw lenses to produce images of the slowly evolving video content.

Video Illusions also worked with LWE for the second year running, supplying video production across all 4 stages at Junction 2 electronic dance festival in London. Dave and Nick Whiteoak also worked alongside Andy Hurst HSL to provide production for Chase & Status’ finale headline slot on the Forrest Stage of Snowbombing festival.

Finally, Video Illusions also supplied full video production across Boomtown Fair for the 4th year running to the town’s districts and venues including; Lions Den, Town Centre, Dstrkt 5, China Town, Mayfair and Sector 6. Always one of the highlights for Video Illusions, the team enjoyed this fully immersive festival with everyone involved going above and beyond to create such a special place for its residents and the crew included.
