APG Enters Line Array Market
04 April 2010 16.54 BST
French loudspeaker manufacturer APG launched two brand new products and presented its first ever line array system, Uniline, along with the new-generation multi-purpose monitor speaker, the SMX15.
Uniline represents a new departure for French loudspeaker manufacturer, APG, in that it is the company’s first line array product. Taking advantage of new generation proprietary Isotop waveguide technology, Uniline is a high precision, medium/long-throw line array system designed for applications requiring high power, maximum clarity and exceptional pattern control.
The range comprises two models: the UL210 three-way biamped full range loudspeaker which may be used as a stand-alone system for medium power voice and music applications, or in conjunction with the dedicated Uniline UL115B subwoofer for high power concert/touring applications. From an acoustic point of view, APG’s patented Isotop10™ vertical 10° Isotop waveguide produces exceptionally precise, uniform coverage and real 85° constant directivity across all the mid-hi frequencies for flawless line source coupling and an exceptional stereo image throughout the listening area.
Another advantage of Uniline is that it is extremely versatile thanks to its modular configuration – it may be flown or ground-stacked, used in stand-alone mode or with subs, or indeed with subs AND infrabass subwoofers for extended low-frequency reinforcement. Cardioid configurations are also possible. As a result, the Uniline system is perfectly adapted to everything from short-throw to very long-throw applications, either indoors or outside.
Uniline also benefits from APG’s intensive research on handling and transport features which has resulted in significantly reduced rigging time thanks to a highly intuitive and easy to deploy rigging system, whilst still providing maximum security. Much of this is made possible by APG’s Uniline Aiming Tool, a proprietary software tool designed to optimize configuration both mechanically and acoustically. Presets are available for the digital processors and a system installation protocol has been developed in order to achieve perfect results every time.
The SMX15 is the new flagship product of their Dispersion Series range of multipurpose loudspeakers. SMX15 heralds the launch of a range of new technologies from APG, including all-new coaxial technology, which forms the backbone of the Dispersion Series and is the bedrock upon which APG’s reputation is built.
The SMX15 is a high precision, high power monitor speaker. Based on coaxial technology to offer a perfectly consistent conical acoustic field, SMX15 is the first new-generation product in the APG Dispersion Series. Designed for applications requiring a combination of accurate sonic precision and very high SPLs down to low frequencies, the SMX15 delivers an audio quality and accuracy to rival the best studio monitors as well as exceptional dynamic capability with very low distortion.
This new coaxial loudspeaker takes advantage of a proprietary technique of forced thermal transfer, which drastically reduces thermal compression effects, resulting in exceptional sound pressure capacity down to 60 Hz. The low frequency section comprises a new generation neodymium 15” cone speaker mounted in a ported enclosure, whilst the high frequency section comprises a 1.4” neodymium compression driver offering extremely low distortion and frequency extension up to 20 kHz.
The new generation DX15 and DX12 replace the DS15 and the DS12S respectively, thereby completely revitalising the core of the Dispersion Series and bringing it into line with the new generation flagship product, the SMX15.
DX15 is a high power, 2-way, compact monitor speaker featuring a unique 15” LF/1” HF coaxial loudspeaker unit. Characterised by its high efficiency and “studio monitor” –type performance (extended bandwidth, linear frequency response and minimal distortion), DX15 offers total flexibility for stage monitoring and FoH applications, with or without subwoofers. Its high quality acoustic performance combined with sophisticated ergonomics and rigging possibilities make it one of the most versatile products of its class. The asymmetric cabinet design enables two different angles as a floor monitor (30° for near-field and 45° for far-field applications), or it may be pole-mounted or flown for use as a FoH, delay or in-fill system. When combined with subwoofers, DX15 is capable of extremely high level performance in mid- and large-sized venues. A range of dedicated processors is available depending on the application.
DX12 is the little brother to DX15 featuring a 12” LF/1” HF coaxial loudspeaker unit which produces a perfectly coherent acoustic field with a conical dispersion of 100°. Offering the same asymmetric cabinet design and cleverly thought-out ergonomics as the DX15, the DX12 is every bit as versatile as DX15 but in a lighter, more compact format. It can operate as a stand-alone system, either as a stage monitor or FoH system, or as a complement to the main PA, or it may be combined with subwoofers to create an extremely compact medium power PA system with an excellent power/size ratio. Naturally, DX12 is perfectly compatible with DX15, and also has its own dedicated processors.
The DX12 and DX15 can be used with different levels of processing depending on the application. They can be used without any processing for vocal applications, with SPX12 or LPDX12 processors for medium and high power music and live sound or with APG’s digital processor DMS26 for medium power distributed sound systems.
Furthermore, the sophisticated ergonomics of the SMX15 which includes APG’s unique Aiming Tuning System (AST), enable the speaker to be tilted at five different angles for maximum versatility. Each position offers the lowest possible profile, and three integrated handles ensure straightforward lifting and handling. There is also an optional rigging system.
Versatile, compact, easy to handle and quick and precise to install, the SMX15 is perfectly suited to live applications, either as a traditional stage monitor or as a complement to the main PA, or drum-fill, side-fill etc. Combined with compact subwoofers, the SMX15 becomes a stand-alone high power nearfield or midfield FoH system. However, it is equally at home in fixed installations of all kinds, particularly bars, clubs and performance venues.
