Peavey Introduces Versatile EU Series Active Enclosures, ReValver MK III.V And The TriFlex II

20 January 2010 15.56 BST

Peavey announced the new EU Series class D powered loudspeaker enclosures, including the EU 112D and EU 115D two-way loudspeakers and EU 118D subwoofer.

The EU 112D and EU 115D powered enclosures showcase the new 12” Peavey Black Widow BWX-DVC Neo loudspeaker, engineered with dual voice coil, push-pull technology and a neodymium magnet. A Woofer Servo circuit monitors back-EMF and controls cone motion, ensuring the cone’s movement mirrors the driving signal from the power amp and resulting in very low distortion, high power handling and rock-solid low-frequency attack.

The EU 112D and EU 115D feature Peavey’s 2” RX 22 titanium compression driver and patented Quadratic Throat Waveguide horn in an asymmetrical design providing 100° H x 50° V (+15, -35) coverage. The driver is positioned in line with the horn geometry to ensure clear sound reproduction. Utilising Peavey's revolutionary IPR power amplifier technology, the EU 112D and EU 115D produce 1,200 total watts of efficient power with a lightweight switch-mode power supply and a high-speed class D topology that yields the highest audio resolution and efficiency available.

The EU input section features two input channels and a line output, with a mix of I/O options such as combination XLR-¼” jacks, RCA and install-ready Phoenix connections. Input channels 1 and 2 also have mic/line source switches and gain controls. The Auto-Off function automatically shuts off the power when it no longer detects a signal, while the Line Out allows the user to chain multiple units or send the input signal to another source.

The DynaQ section offers advanced tone controls such as Bass Enhancer, which is an overall loudness boost; a Music/Speech switch that provides optimized EQ settings for each audio type; and Contour, specially configured for program music. A module bay allows for future expansion including Wireless I/O, Delay/Time Adjustment, Mixer Expander, Ethernet I/O and more.

The EU 118D features a 1,000-watt Peavey IPR power section and a Low Rider 18 woofer in a highly rugged enclosure. The EU 118D also features a fourth order Linkwitz-Riley crossover that has eight selectable low-frequency crossover points, a crossover in/out switch, low frequency enhancement, and a high-pass output to send the signal out to an EU powered high/mid enclosure.

The EU 112D, EU 115D and EU 118D are constructed of lightweight 13-layer plywood with a durable Hammer Head polyurethane finish. The EU 112D and EU 115D have three built-in flying points and a tilt-back design to facilitate use as a personal monitor, while all three models are equipped with pole mounts.

Peavey also introduced the next version of its acclaimed ReValver amplifier modeling software, ReValver MK III.V, which debuts nine new amplifier and effects models. Developed by veteran tube-amp maker Peavey Electronics, ReValver is a revolutionary amplifier modeling software that captures the true characteristics of vacuum tubes while allowing users unprecedented control over their tonality and gain structures.

Peavey ReValver MK III.V will feature the debut of the Peavey 3120, Peavey Masterpiece, Peavey Sensation, Budda Superdrive II, and Budda Superdrive V Series amplifier models. New effects models in ReValver MK III.V are the classic Peavey VCL-2 tube compressor and the Budda Budwah expression pedal. All of the amp and effects models and deep editing popularized by ReValver MK III are also available in MK III.V.

ReValver utilises an exclusive algorithm that analyses the interactions of the amps’ components at the circuit level, based on the original schematics. By mapping these amplifier models from the component level, ReValver is able to model every nuance with amazing accuracy, allowing players to design their ultimate custom amps and speaker systems.

As advanced as ReValver’s modeling algorithms are, operating the models can be as simple or in-depth as the user desires. The software GUI is intuitive and easy to use, with a drag-and-drop interface where users can add and subtract individual components and devices such as amplifiers, preamps, power amps, stomp boxes and effects.

Unlocking ReValver’s groundbreaking customisation tools is also easy. By right-clicking on an amp model, users can “go inside” and adjust the amp’s tones and components on the Tweak Module GUI. This allows users to change, add or subtract tubes on all amplifier models, and then calibrate even the voltage parameters of those tubes. In all, users can alter more than 15 elements and functions on each tube stage, with as many as 17 different preamp and power tube types to choose from. Users can also modify power amp rectifiers, output transformers and tone stacks.

ReValver MK III.V features a robust stompbox and effects section, including various types of chorus, distortion, wah, tremolo, compression, limiter, delay, octaver and much more. An FFT-based convolution reverb allows for very complex and smooth reverbs, including sampled spring reverb, and allows users to import their own .WAV samples. The VST Host module allows users to load their favorite third-party VSTs for use within the ReValver software.

Readers of Guitar Player magazine voted ReValver Mk III amplifier-modeling software as the Best Home Studio Gear of 2009 in its annual Readers’ Choice Awards. The software also won a Premier Gear Award from Premier Guitar magazine and Platinum and Value Awards from Future Music magazine.

Peavey also debuted the new TriFlex II, a three-way, two-channel portable sound system that provides 1,200 watts of power for live sound reinforcement, DJ gigs and music playback applications.

The Peavey TriFlex II system is a complete sound system providing 1,200 watts of power through a three-speaker setup — one 15" Peavey subwoofer plus two satellite speakers with 10” premium woofers and Peavey RX14 1.4” titanium compression drivers on patented Peavey Quadratic Throat Waveguide horns. The system is engineered for balanced sound and crisp presentation regardless of the application, with clear sound at high output levels and plenty of punchy bass.

The TriFlex II chassis is housed in the subwoofer enclosure and includes all of the system electronics — two-channel preamp, electronic crossover and subsonic filter — as well as the three power amps. For easy transport, the TriFlex subwoofer can be turned onto its built-in 3” casters, with the satellite speakers secured in the sub's grille cavity. A cover with pockets to store your microphones and cables is also provided.

The powerful Peavey TriFlex II also sets up in seconds. Once in position, simply remove the two satellite speakers and turn the subwoofer onto its rubber feet so the preamp controls, inputs and outputs are conveniently positioned at the top rear of the subwoofer enclosure. The satellite loudspeakers feature pole mounts for placing on speaker stands to disperse the sound to the audience. These speakers also have a 45-degree back angle so they can be used as floor monitors when placed on the appropriate side.

The TriFlex II enclosures are constructed of sturdy 18 mm MDF with internal bracing and coated with a tough black acrylic paint finish, and feature a 16-gauge perforated metal grille for the ultimate in road-worthy durability.
