Favourite International Production Company
Winner: Westfalen Sound
Sponsored by Christie
The party held in Emsdetten last autumn to commemorate Westfalen Sound’s 30th anniversary marked a significant milestone in the career of the German rental company’s founder, Carl Cordier.
After gaining experience as a sound engineer from his school days and then as a sales assistant with Music Productiv, Carl founded his company in 1978 in Münster. Within four years, Westfalen Sound was supporting a major tour by Howard Carpendale and forming new alliances that would have an impact on a successful future.
Carl’s vision for a one-stop production service was realised in the 1990s with the founding of The Pool Group, comprising of lighting company T.L.C. and MS Video GmbH to complement the already-established audio expertise.
From its early Cerwin-Vega! compact systems to its pioneering use of L-Acoustics’ V-DOSC line array on Supertramp’s 1997 tour, through to its embracing of the Meyer Sound product line, Westfalen has kept pace with all modern developments in live sound reinforcement and remains at the top of the European rental business.
