Total Production

TPi AWARDS 2009

Monday 9 February 2009 - Grosvenor House, London W1

Phill Jupitus to host gala dinner! Four new categories added!

Mondiale Events is pleased to announce details of next year’s Total Production International Awards — the live production industry’s premier celebration and networking event.

Held again at the prestigious Grosvenor House in Park Lane, London W1, on Monday 9 February 2009, the gala evening dinner will be hosted by top comedian, TV & radio personality and occasional member of The Blockheads — the one, the only Phill Jupitus!

Making their debut at the TPi Awards 2009 will be four new categories. For the first time, there will be awards for Favourite Rigging Company, Backline Technician of the Year, Favourite Crew Company and Favourite Production Rehearsal Facility, enabling an even wider spread of appreciation across the live events community.

TPi editor and creative director of the TPi Awards, Mark Cunningham explained: “Every year, we receive comments that some industry disciplines are overlooked, however, we have to take care to keep our audience’s attention and not prolong the evening ceremony too much.

“Weighing up the situation, it was felt that by redesigning some elements of the presentation, we could accommodate these four new categories, that have been proposed by many people for several years, and we are very pleased to finally include them.”

With Phill Jupitus as host, guests at the TPi Awards 2009 gala dinner are promised an evening of riotous humour! Jupitus is one of the few personalities who genuinely spans the worlds of comedy and music. He first came to prominence on the early ’80s gig and festival circuit as ‘Porky The Poet’, supporting fellow left-wingers Billy Bragg, The Style Council and The Housemartins — and earning an appearance in the latter’s video for ‘Happy Hour’.

As well as playing cameo roles in the movie ‘Mike Bassett: England Manager’ and TV’s ‘Holby City’, Jupitus became famous for his regular appearances on quiz shows ‘QI’ and ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’, and as the host of numerous radio programmes for BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Four and GLR.

More recently, Jupitus has toured as a guest member of the reunited Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and The Blockheads.

Said Cunningham: “Phill has been at the top of our list for a few years, and we’re delighted to have secured his appearance for 2009.”

Further details about the event, including information on the PSA’s Annual Conference and daytime activities, will be announced over the next few issues of TPi.

Tickets for the TPi Awards 2009 dinner are priced at £150 each, with a table of 10 at £1,500 (exc. VAT).
