DiGiCo SD10B Hits The Road With Audiotruck.dk

Friday 1st July - 09.40am

DiGiCo’s broadcast roots are well known and its latest broadcast-specific console - the SD10B - has been gaining a lot of attention. As well as studio installations, it’s just as at home in outside broadcast situations, as a recent purchase in Denmark has proved.

Experienced recording engineer and producer Henrik Nilsson has recorded and mixed a variety of high profile live concerts for broadcast, including Metallica, Jean Michel Jarre, Massive Attack, Robbie Williams, the Roskilde and Skanderborg festivals. He recently bought the vehicle to provide a versatile OB service - Audiotruck dk

Following a May refit, the truck’s audio infrastructure is to the highest standard, handling digital audio via both MADI and Optocore. Two DiGiCo D-Racks are optically connected to the SD10B console. Meanwhile, MADI signals are routed via the truck’s MADI splitter system to the SD10B.

The console is used to mix the show for live broadcast, routing up to 256 channels of digital audio to a Macintosh-based recording system running Steinberg Nuendo.

The equipment was installed by Danish audio specialists Soundware in less than a day, as the company’s Kim Johansen reveals.

“The truck came in to Soundware in the morning without equipment and left the same evening with a plug and play system,” he says. “From here it went straight to the SPOT festival in Aarhus, where it was used to record the performances on two of the stages.

The two stages were equipped with DiGiCo SD7 consoles and DiGiRacks, supplied by DPA SoundCo, so it was straightforward for Henrik to pickup the MADI lines from each stage.

“Although Henrik is a very experienced studio engineer, he had never operated a DiGiCo console before and was amazed with its ease of use,” says Kim. “The SD10B has not only given Audiotruck.dk a cutting-edge technical specification, it has also made it very intuitive to use. This is extremely valuable in the high-pressure world of outside broadcast.”
