An exclusive Paul Weller signed Viper open faced helmet will be auctioned on ebay in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. The auction, organised by 2Toots Scooter Club, will open on Friday 6 May and will run for ten days, with a starting price of £300.

Every day in the UK, six young people are told they have cancer. Usually placed on a children’s ward or with elderly patients, young people often feel extremely isolated when facing a cancer diagnosis.

Teenage Cancer Trust builds units in NHS hospitals that offer young people specialist care, bringing them together so they can support each other in an environment suited to them.

The units’ home-from-home feel creates a sense of normality, containing social areas with pool tables, comfy sofas, music, laptops, wifi, Skype and TVs. They are bright and vibrant and designed to give young people the very best chance of a positive outcome.

2Toots Scooter Club formed in 2009, in memory of well known Newcastle scooterist Kenny Crown - more commonly known as Jasper. Over 100 scooters gathered in support after Jasper was diagnosed with cancer. They rode from Cochrane Park to Corbridge, passing by The Freeman Hospital on the way to see Jasper for what they knew would be the last time. Jasper sadly passed away later that year.

Since then, 2Toots Scooter Club has continued the ride-outs to raise money for various cancer charities. Over the last two years, they have raised over £3500 in Jasper’s memory. This year, the Club has chosen to support Teenage Cancer Trust, and due to their strong links with the music industry and the Modfather, Paul Weller, have adopted the charity as their official partner moving forward.

This year’s big rideout, named ‘The Kids are Alright’ will take place on 5th June. Starting at the QE2 Nature Park, Ashington, they will ride up the coastal route to Bamburgh, Northumberland where a hog roast will greet the riders at Bamburgh Cricket Club. Fundraising will continue on 17th September for the Big Night In.  Held at Gosforth Civic Centre, the Whodlums will take to the stage, and DJs will be playing Ska, Soul, and 60s sounds.

Event organiser Paul Hunter, said: “2Toots Scooter club has been a great success over the last two years. We are proud to be supporting Teenage Cancer Trust this year and for many years to come. We will continue to raise money to fight cancer in Jaspers memory and welcome everyone to join us.”

There are 17 units across the country and the charity plans to build a further 16 so that all young people needing hospital treatment for cancer across the UK have access to the dedicated, specialist support they provide.

As well as specialist units, Teenage Cancer Trust also funds a number of services all with the same goal – to help young people fight cancer. These include clinical and research staff, an education programme for schools, family support networks and an annual conference for young cancer patients.
