Architainment Lights Up The Stage For Pop Sensation Shakira

Architainment Lighting Ltd has supplied a range of LED lighting technology for Colombian pop sensation, Shakira’s, latest worldwide tour. Prior to the kick off of ‘The Sun Comes Out’ tour, Lite Alternative approached Architainment, a specialist projects company for the entertainment and architectural lighting sectors, who then supplied LED fixtures for the European and South American stretch of the Grammy-award-winning singer’s global tour.

As lighting designer for the production, Paul Normandale knew exactly what kind of technology he needed to compliment the stage design and so contacted Architainment who then provided the ColorBlaze® 48 and iW® Blast TR from Philips Color Kinetics.

To light the walkway coming from the main stage, Architainment supplied 28 Philips Color Kinetics iW Blast TR fixtures. This intelligent white LED fitting has been designed to endure and adapt to the continuous setups and teardowns of the touring environment. It offers ease of installation and control; along with the ability to produce high-quality white light with a temperature range of 2700 K to 6500 K. Lite Alternative used the fixtures to create a soft fill for the reverse shot on the HD video screen.

The iW® Blast TR is incredibly versatile, using a pivoting bezel for advanced movement and 23° soft-focus or 10° clear tempered glass lenses so the designer can switch quickly between soft-edge wash lighting and extended beam projection. Commenting on the technology chosen, Paul Normandale, said: “I was particularly interested in using the iW® Blast TR as it offers a tungsten and cold white mix that ensures a full light for follow spots, meaning the artist always appears evenly lit for the 10mm HD video wall.”

In addition to the iW® Blast TR, Lite Alternative used 24 fittings of Philips Color Kinetics ColorBlaze® 48, also from Architainment. Used to line the front of the main stage, the technology is particularly robust and has been designed to wash large areas while enduring the rigors of touring. Lite Alternative used the 4ft version of the ColorBlaze® 48, which is controllable in 6in segments.

Architainment also supplied the PDS-375, a portable power supply unit from City Theatrical, to power the iW Blast fixtures.

Nic Tolkien, Managing Director of Architainment commented: “We have had a great relationship with both Paul Normandale and Lite Alternative for a long time now and always ensure we supply the highest quality technology for all the projects they work on. We continue to look forward to working with them in the future.”
