Barcelona! - It was the first time that we met the new SDMO Rental Range
30 November 2010 16:15 GMT
Executives from the leading generator manufacturer, SDMO, accompanied with delegates from some of the UK’s top generator rental firms flew into Barcelona to be present at the unveiling of the brand new SDMO Rental Compact range of generators.
Following a champagne reception at a plush hotel on the outskirts of Barcelona, the delegates were treated to a comprehensive company presentation that confirmed SDMO’s status as one of the world’s largest manufacturer of generators, with currently 19% of the European diesel market.
The presentation also confirmed that in the UK and Ireland, SDMO customers are serviced by 14 dealers and support agencies, with a total of 53 fully trained service engineers strategically situated right across the British Isles.
With the corporate formalities complete, the delegates moved into the grounds of the hotel to inspect two examples from the Rental Compact range at first hand. On display was a 100 kVA set accompanied by a 30kVA unit.
Clive Dix, from SDMO Energy spoke to generator experts, explaining, “Naturally, the first consideration was to make sure that all the technical features and benefits, demanded by the rental industry, was included as standard into the sets. However, as we anticipate that these rental generators will be used in wide variety of situations, we became aware that we needed to consider the overall look of the sets. Therefore our designers produced a canopy that is not only compact and practical, but also pleasing to the eye, ensuring that these sets will not look out of place in any surroundings, whilst remaining highly durable in extreme weather conditions. We take the needs of our customers seriously and therefore we have incorporated many of your ideas into the new design” concluded Clive.
The current SDMO rental range offers generator fleet solutions between 2.75 and 2500kVA and the newly launched SDMO Rental Compact range encompasses a power band between 16.0 to 700.0 kVA, utilising Leroy Somer alternators combined with the latest John Deere, Mitsubishi, or Volvo engine. These attractively designed sets incorporate a high-level control panel, separated from the alternator, featuring all the necessary instrumentation for unrivalled control and management, by USB connection.
Each set is fitted with low level sockets and a hardwire facility. Engine access has been improved with wide opening galvanised doors and thoughtfully added door retainer clips. Environmental issues, such a reduced noise pollution and diesel spillage has not been overlooked. These new rental generators have whisper-quiet sound levels and the long-run fuel tank is fully bunded, making these sets ideally suited for providing clean power for commercial use, during outside events and on construction sites, particularly in urban areas. Transportation and off-loading is made simple via the, nylon lined, fork access pockets inserted into the base which protect the set from damage, with a central lifting eye retained within the canopy surround.
Clive added, “We consulted widely with our rental clients before we began to develop this range, our plan was to design an entirely new range of generators specifically for the rental markets and not simply adapt existing products.”
With some very close inspections taking place, only one or two minor thoughts for improvement were put forward by the delegates, SDMO swiftly confirmed that these suggestions would be incorporated as the line develops. Overall the range was well received, with Kevin Hickey from Power Command Limited in Rotherham confirming an order for several 100kVA sets on the day.
“This was an excellent trip for us”, concluded Clive, to have so many technically skilled generator people in one mission praising these sets was extremely satisfying, we are now completely confident that our Rental Compact range is sure to be huge success during the coming years.”
SDMO Generators have their headquarters and manufacturing facility in Brest, France. Over 100,000 generating sets rated between 15 and 3500 kVA roll from the SDMO production lines each year.
UK clients are supplied by SDMO Energy Limited operating from two sites in Cheshire and Surrey. In turn, SDMO Energy has appointed a number of dealers and distributors strategically situated throughout the UK and Ireland.
