Gallowglass and Steve Kearney Form Health and Safety Company

3 November 2010 12:52 BST

Production crewing firm Gallowglass has partnered Steve Kearney, one of the event industry’s leading chartered health and safety consultants, to create a new company, Gallowglass Health & Safety.

The company is an entirely separate entity from the Gallowglass crewing operation and has been set up to provide support, advice and training on health and safety management, on stage, in-studio and on location.

Kearney has been successfully running his own company, Steve Kearney Consulting (SKC) since 2006 and has long been retained by Gallowglass among other events companies and industry suppliers to offer competent and sensible safety advice, conduct risk assessments and ensure venues and locations are legislation-compliant.

He says: “Joining forces with Gallowglass will strengthen my own resource and enable me to dedicate more of my time to actually working with clients.  This development can only serve to deliver a greater level of Health and Safety provision for both my own and Gallowglass’ existing clients.  Together we can offer a service that is unparalleled in the events industry.”

In recent years Gallowglass has progressively made a £400,000 investment in its own health and safety culture – including the creation of an 84-page Crew Handbook and a series of training films as part of its induction programme for new crew members.

Gallowglass Managing Director Nick Grecian says: “Formalising our relationship with Steve feels like a natural progression for us. We have been ramping up our Health and Safety capability for some time and now have 12 Crew Chiefs who have obtained the NEBOSH* National General Certificate.  With Steve at the helm that capability becomes a complete service offering, enabling us to offer our clients an additional tier of expertise. Based on evidence to date, we see huge growth potential for the company.”

With Steve Kearney as Principal Consultant, Gallowglass Health & Safety’s  team of safety experts will be led by Paul (Alby) Anderson who was previously Director of Operations for Gallowglass’ crewing firm.
