SERIOUS STAGES CREW MEMBER FATALITY AT WILL YOUNG CONCERT

16 July 2010 15.45 BST

On Thursday 15 July, Bill Andrews, a Serious Stages crew member, tragically died following an incident at an open-air concert at Rochester Castle in Kent by singer Will Young.

The following day, Serious Stages issued this statement: “Yesterday, shortly after 6pm, we were informed that Bill Andrews, our representative at Rochester Castle Gardens, had collapsed. He was found unconscious on the stage by the onsite production crew. Onsite paramedics were quickly at the scene and were supported by NHS ambulance staff who arrived within minutes and treated Mr. Andrews. He was subsequently moved to the Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham but was later pronounced dead.

“Kent Police in Medway have issued a statement and are not treating the death as suspicious. The incident site has been reopened and all shows at Rochester Castle are going ahead as scheduled. Police are not investigating any health and safety issues surrounding the incident and the death is thought to be from natural causes, although this cannot be confirmed until a post mortem has been carried out.

“As soon as more information is made public an updated press release will be issued. We would like to express our sincere condolences to Bill's family and friends and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. He will be sorely missed by everyone at Serious Stages.”
