Eco-mode Boosts Lifespan Of Barco’s LED Video Walls To 75,000 Hours
14 June 2010 11.45 BST
Leading provider of professional visualisation solutions, Barco has introduced the innovative Eco-mode to its OL series, the company's family of LED-lit rear-projection video walls.
Combined with the revolutionary liquid cooling, this feature boosts the lifetime of the LEDs to 75,000 hours – or more than 8.5 years of continuous operation.
The OL series is Barco's latest range of video walls, tackling a large number of challenges faced by most other video wall systems used today. By combining the advantages of using LEDs instead of lamps to create the images, with a number of cutting-edge technical innovations, the OL series show saturated colours, low maintenance and usability in critical 24/7 applications.
Tests have shown that LED lifetime is significantly expanded by efficient cooling techniques. However, traditional cooling methods — using cooling fans and air — is insufficient to bring the LED temperature down enough. That's why Barco introduces liquid cooling in video walls, a proven technique already used for demanding computer systems. In combination with the Eco-mode, optimising the video wall's luminance, Barco brings the LED temperature down to the optimal level. This results in a significantly longer lifetime of the projection system, amounting to 75,000 hours of continuous operation, or a 35% improvement over competing video walls.
“The OL series is a significant addition to our portfolio of visualisation solutions”, Mathieu Massart, Barco's product management displays director, said. “The impressive amount of continuous operational hours and a large number of additional innovative advantages, have attracted the attention of customers in a wide range of different markets worldwide. For example, we have won two projects at the Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (ADIF), the Spanish railway infrastructure manager, to install a 5 x 2 OL-521 and a 9 x 3 OL-721 video wall. The last one will be installed for the high speed line Madrid-Valencia. Furthermore, we have already supplied our display cubes for another 20+ reference projects and customer reactions are very positive. We strongly believe that this video wall, with the warmest colors, coolest engine and smallest footprint, is the best choice for demanding 24/7 applications on the market today.”
