Meyer Sound And Sa DingDing Bring Harmony To Hong Kong Star Hall
26 May 2010 14.42 BST
Sa DingDing, a Grammy nominee and winner of the BBC Radio 3 World Music Award in 2008, performed two concerts at the Hong Kong Star Hall for the 38th Hong Kong Arts Festival where Shalom AV Technology Limited provided a Meyer Sound MILO line array loudspeaker system for the event.
Named by the London Times as the Asian Björk, Sa DingDing sings in Tibetan, Sanskrit, and Mandarin. By mixing traditional Chinese melodies and Buddhist prayers with electronic instruments, she has inspired many with a spiritual musicality that can only be faithfully reproduced by a Meyer Sound system.
“MILO was used because it not only provides the power we needed for the size of venue but also gives us the dynamics," stated Roland Chan, concert engineer of Shalom AV Technology Ltd.
To cover 3,600 spectators in the four-level Star Hall measuring 30,000 sq ft, a Meyer Sound system with 16 MILO and four MILO 120 line array loudspeakers was configured. Low frequency was supplied by four 700-HP and four 650-P subwoofers. Four UPA-1P loudspeakers provided frontfill. A Galileo loudspeaker management system provided signal processing and an RMS remote monitoring system offered extensive real-time status and system performance data. MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction program was used for system design.
“System setup is simplified with the help of MAPP. The prediction of sound level and coverage area is accurate. We save a lot of time in system tuning because the sound quality is already optimised for singing performances. Meyer Sound products make our life as concert sound engineers much easier,” said Chan.
Miso Technology Company Limited provided musical instruments and a VENUE mixing console for the concerts. “We are all satisfied with the whole system, which helped us deliver a great live performance of Sa DingDing,” said So Wang Ip, Miso’s sales and marketing manager.
