Gallowglass’ New Training Films Boost H&S Culture
15 March 2010 13.07 BST
Events crewing firm Gallowglass has produced a series of training films to be used as part of its induction programme for new crew members.
The films cover 14 key areas of crewing activity, including unloading and manoeuvring set, erecting staging, hanging equipment and working at heights.
The films will be used in conjunction with the company’s 84-page Crew Handbook, which was produced in conjunction with the British Safety Council. The Handbook is already widely used as an industry bible for operational staff, and forms part of Gallowglass’ £400,000 investment in developing a Health & Safety Culture.
Nick Grecian, Gallowglass’ managing director said: “As well as providing our crews with a comprehensive guide to the tasks they will be undertaking on a daily basis, we impress upon them the responsibility that they bear as individuals for their own and others’ safety on-site. The films are interpretations of actual risk assessments that we have conducted for key tasks, and they’ve been designed to aid the crewmen’s understanding of those critical documents.”
Creation of the training films is the first initiative in a raft of Health & Safety measures being rolled out by the company during 2010.
Grecian added: “Event organisers are under pressure to cut costs, and at the sharp end of event production that means using untrained and poorly-managed crews. But all those involved in the operational side of events have a duty of care towards attendees, venue staff and their own employees. We are not prepared to cut corners and are committed to maintaining standards and managing risk.”
