GTMS scoops ‘green’ working accolade

A leading branding and event production company is celebrating after being awarded an internationally recognised certificate for its commitment to reducing environmental impact

GTMS was presented with the ISO 14001:2004 accreditation for its Environmental Management Systems which assessed every aspect of the company’s operations from preventing pollution, reducing energy use and resources to reusing and recycling as much as possible.

Phil Towle, Operations Manager at Hampshire-based GTMS said, “This is a fantastic achievement and every employee has worked hard to ensure we met the strict 1SO 14001:2004 requirements. We have been actively improving our environmental responsibility at every level over the last three years - from design and planning to production and supply. We have significantly reduced our energy consumption and reduced all of our waste streams which apart from the environmental aspects, has actually brought cost savings.

“The GTMS team is now in the fortunate position of being able to use its knowledge and experience to encourage suppliers and customers to look at environmentally sound alternatives to the norm. Our aim is to be industry leaders and environmental champions,” added Phil.
 
The Waterlooville company was able to put its ‘green’ expertise into practice recently when its client Ignite, a global marketing solutions agency, asked GTMS to use the most environmentally friendly product to build various elements of a Formula 1 track and pit area for a promotional event at one of Europe’s largest shopping centres.

GTMS supplied large scale prints on a PVC substitute called Jet, as PVC is not recyclable and is notoriously harmful to the environment when produced and disposed of. Jet 2010 saves 80% energy in production, contains no harmful substances so can easily be disposed of and transport costs were reduced as it was significantly lighter than PVC. GTMS ensured that all other elements it provided were designed and produced to be broken down after use vastly improving the environmental credentials of this event.
