This two-day ETCP recognized training course was held on Monday August 17th and Tuesday August 18th in Oxnard, CA.  The twenty-six attendees received instruction by Dave Carmack, lead trainer for CM-ET, in the design and operation of the hoists, maintenance needs, inspection requirements and unit troubleshooting.  All of this was achieved through a hands-on teardown and inspection of a ½ Ton and 1 Ton Lodestar hoist as well as the smaller Prostar model.

Unlike the majority of prior Columbus McKinnon training schools the final day of the course included a written certification examination on what they the students had learned throughout the two days, with only those scoring higher than 75% on the over one hundred questions winning the right to call themselves a Level 1 CE-ET qualified hoist technician.  The final pass rate of only 73% of the attendees achieving the necessary grade to qualify perhaps best explains the level of detail that was taught and the level of understanding necessary in order to obtain the qualification.  Those who failed the exam were given the right to attend the course again at a later date free of charge. 

The appropriately qualified students who passed the course also obtained 16 renewal credits towards ETCP rigging examination re-certification.

The cost of the course also included a catered tour of the Total Structures factory on the first evening where the complexities and latest technology being utilized in truss manufacture were shown and explained to the attendees.
