wysiwyg R24 Members Only Advance Release
05 August 2009 11.50 BST
Cast Software announces the members only limited release of wysiwyg Release 24, the third and final installment in the latest wysiwyg trilogy, donning the slogan, “Really virtually real!” download is available for members to download now.
Beta testing wrapped up last month with an overwhelming response from Testers. What users can previsualize in Shaded View is exactly what they can see on the set, in the venue or on the exterior of a building. With wysiwyg’s proprietary library of over 20,000 lights, gobos, trusses, etc., there is no “cheating” needed so Shaded View and Renderings are replicable anywhere – really virtually real.
New features in wysiwyg R24 include:
- Improved Shaded View: No need to go offline to render!
- LED: New LED light sources and LED flare capability offer better representation in Shaded View, LED Fixtures and LED Walls not only look better, but these new models allow for better efficiency and performance when dealing with all LEDs. This is an enormous advantage as LEDs are being used to some degree in almost every lighting design. This also means that simple light bulbs and other single point light sources will be nicely modeled in wysiwyg.
- Improvements in visualization: including enhanced beams, improved beam footprints and shadows.
- Inverse Square Law: A new upgrade in R24, it calculates accurate beam drop-off in visualization calculations.
- Colour temperature: Information from wysiwyg Libraries includes different bulb wattages that more accurately display the photometric of different bulbsis used to more accurately display the photometrics of the bulbs.
- Hot Spots: Hot spots add another aspect of realism to wysiwyg visualization. Formerly, uniform footprints are now distributed based on the photometric data of the fixture.
- Time-of-day capability in Shaded View for outdoor events: Use climatic or environmental conditions for time, place and even weather, specific to an event’s geographical location anywhere in the world to test ideas and demonstrate work.
- Geometry Smoothing in OpenGL: This new shading technique delivers better-looking sets and people, plus a performance boost.
- CITP Protocol for Video: The new feature allows consoles supporting this protocol to stream video content across a network into wysiwyg to be displayed on a video screen or DL fixture.
- R24 also has more intuitive and logical Design Tools and an Improved Dongle Security System.
The “trilogy” of the most recent three releases of wysiwyg is a collection of monumental improvements in R22, R23 and now R24. R22’s ground-up build introduced new enhanced beam simulation with soft-edge beams, accurate beam color mixing, lens flares, and animated smoke. R23 made design more lifelike than previously thought possible, including new visualization features delivering the real quality of light in realtime, delivering enhanced footprint qualities of the beams with new footprints, accurate shadows, an optional hot spot display, and a new video-in-beam feature to display video content for digital lighting fixtures.
R24 is built on these significant advances made in R22 + R23. Its new visualization raises the standard for the industry. In addition to the new features and visualization, its developmental accomplishments have not sacrificed wysiwyg’s robustness or performance. And for those of us always conscious of the financial crunch (and who isn’t?) wysiwyg Design gives users all the tools they need to compete at only $2499 --an all-in-one software, meaning no transfer of data between softwares and none of the inefficiencies that happen because your plotting software can’t render, saving both time and money (check out that bang for your buck!). (There are other versions available at all price ranges that may better suit your need, visit www.cast-soft.com for more information.) But the bottom line is, no one can effectively compete without the right tools in hand.
R24 is free to current wysiwyg members.
