Radio 1’s Big Weekend with Sennheiser
15 June 2009 16.40 BST
The 2009 festival season kicked off in May with BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend and a host of artists on both stages using Sennheiser equipment.
This year’s Big Weekend took place at Lydiard Park, Swindon and was covered on Radio 1, BBC Three on TV, on the Red Button and on BBC
Mobile.
Across the main and ‘In New Music We Trust’ stages there was a varied mix of UK and international artists – from household names, to new artists championed by Radio 1's specialist DJs.
The main stage was supported by Sennheiser in conjunction with Britannia Row and saw their crew, with assistance from Sennheiser’s Dave Hawker and Mark Saunders, undertaking the set up. Additional equipment was supplied to Brit Row by Sennheiser, with Dave Hawker helping with the planning and licensing as well as setting up antenna distribution on the preceding Friday afternoon.
This led to a large amount of Sennheiser equipment on the main stage; all
In Ear Monitors were Sennheiser EW 300 G2 IEMs and all of the main stage’s presenter mics were Sennheiser SKM 5200s with KK 105 heads.
In addition, main stage Sennheiser users included, Lily Allen, Dizee Rascal, Daniel Merriweather, Akon, Prodigy and The Saturdays all using Sennheiser SKM 935 radio microphones, Franz Ferdinand with e 840s and e 935s, The Script with SKM 5200s with KK 105 heads and Snow Patrol with wired Sennheiser KMS 105s.
The ‘In Music We Trust’ second stage was covered by Adlib Audio who also used a large amount of their own Sennheiser evolution equipment – G2 550s, 935 hand-helds and EW 300 G2 IEM's – and supplied all of the presenter mics, as well as Sennheiser stage mics for use by Basement Jaxx, Enter Shikari, White Lies, Ladyhawke and Maximo Park.
The Big Weekend proved a great success with the crowds, and for Sennheiser, for which it’s the first of many starring appearances at UK festivals over the coming months. And, in a stunning turn up for the books which may auger well for other summer festivals… The Big Weekend was rain free.
