Mick Kluczynski

1949-2009

The live production industry lost a dear friend and a true legend on the night of Friday 6 February when production management maestro Mick Kluczynski passed away after a short illness.

At the time of his death, Mick was spearheading the preparations for yet another BRIT Awards — the event he had worked on for more than a decade — although he had told TPi just before Christmas that he was planning to retire immediately afterwards.

Mick's career in the live industry took off in 1972 when he joined the Pink Floyd crew and became one of the famed 'Quad Squad'. After his time with the Floyd and their company Britannia Row, Mick went freelance and eventually founded MJK Productions.

With MJK, Mick contributed to the considerable growth of the production industry. As well as working with such top artists as The Cure and Jean Michel Jarre, Mick headed the technical production for The MOBO Awards, the VE50 celebrations, countless corporate events, the Classical BRIT Awards and the aforementioned BRITS. He was also notable as one of the founding fathers of the Production Services Association (PSA) which is now administered through TPi's parent company, Mondiale Publishing Limited.

Mick won the prestigious Lifetime Contribution Award at the 2005 TPi Awards and this year's event on February 9 was dedicated to him.

A more detailed tribute to Mick will appear in the March issue of TPi magazine.
