W-DMX™ Celebrates 100-Year Discovery Of Machu Picchu
Monday September 26th - 16.30pm
Wireless Solution Sweden AB sent the award-winning W-DMX™ technology to Peru to play an important role in the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of the existence of the Quechua citadel of Machu Picchu.
The 1911 discovery (“100 Años del Redescubrimiento de Machu Picchu) was by explorer Hiram Bingham.
Machu Picchu, also known as the “Lost City of the Incas”, is perhaps the most familiar icon of the Inca World located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level, situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru. Not the easiest site for a lighting installation.
The celebration involved lighting the historic city with a vast array of colour from high atop the mountains. 2 W-DMX F-1 G4 Transmitters and Receivers were used to send signal to 40 Vari*Lite VL3500 Washes, 20 Vari*Lite VL3000 Spots, 20 Atomic 3000 strobes and 2 Strong Super Trouper 2K follow spots. Lighting Designer was Gian Franco Di Vitto and Andres Cuadros was the equipment consultant. A grandMA2 Ultra-Light was used to control lighting programmed by Martin Tolentino with a WholeHog III used to control the conventional lighting. Equipment was supplied by Red Power Peru.
The W-DMX was doing the communication between the consoles and the rig with the console and the luminaries located approximately 500 metres apart.
“We’re always so happy when W-DMX is used on such historic celebrations,” said Niclas Arvidsson, CEO of Wireless Solution, “The team was extremely pleased with the reliability and ease of use of our system.”
